Artist
Vic Buta worked with three different childrens group to design signs
and structures for three proposed circular walks in the East Shipley
area, and to exhibit the designs locally. Participants from each
group completed one of the walks, sketching, taking photographs,
writing lists, making leaf and bark rubbings and collecting collage
material.
Windhill Primary School
26 children from years 4 and 5 participated in 2 full day art
workshops.They did the Windhill Circular walk..
Back at school they designed and made prints, made
a bird feeding statation, insect habitat, totem pole and sculptures.
Each child made signs with log slices and made ceramic plaques
featuring local landmarks, plants, buldings and play areas.
High Crags Primary School
50 children from Raven 4 and Swan 4 took part in 2 full day workshops,
including the High Crags Circular Walk.
At the school they made detailed drawings of the things they had
seen, designed and made ceramic printing blocks (illustrated)
and made prints with them and used clay to make plaques featuring
local landmarks, plants, buildings, animals and play areas.
The Monday Club
24 children aged between 4 and 16 attended 4 sessions at the Monday
Club, to design signs for the Bolton Woods Circular Walk.
They made kites, illustrating them with drawings from the area,
made plastacine models of walkers and miniture sign posts. In
the final session they made a large paper pathway, model spiders
and dragonflies on a giant web and perching and swinging birds
using feathers and bamboo.
Shipley
Library Exhibition
Children who took part in the Pathways project visiting the Shipley
Library exhibition. The exhibition will be open until Friday February
8th Mon - Fri 9.00am - 7.00pm Sat 9.00am - 5.00pm.
The children from High Crags and Windhill Primary Schools were
presented with achievement certificates by Councillor Vanda Greenwood
(Chair of the Streets Ahead Delivery Team) during their visit.
